The GalleonThe Rowing Club was away for the Strathclyde Park Regatta at the weekend. It was clear that the training camp in France over the Easter holidays had certainly helped our rowers achieve some fantastic performances. They competed in 34 races and these are some highlights.

In the novices/beginners squad two of our girls had never competed in a single race before and had some excellent results, with Anna Greig (S1) winning the Women’s J12 single, and Charley Carmichael (S1) coming second in the Women’s J13 race. Finlay Middlemiss (S2) won the Open J13 single, a fantastic achievement.

The girls’ squad as a whole performed better than they ever had.

Katy McDonald (S5) had an excellent weekend when she won Women’s J16 single and was second in the Women’s J18 single. With her partner, Laura McDonald from Castle Semple she won the Women’s doubles at both J16 and J18 levels.

Our Women’s J16 squad – Errin Gall (S5) and Catriona Mackinnon, Amy Holt, and Lauren Cory (all S3) came second in their race.

Our Women’s J15 coxed quad – Hannah Knowles, Catriona Mackinnon, Amy Holt, and Lauren Cory with cox Julie McDonald (all S3) – had a great result when they came second, beating Aberdeen Schools by 16 seconds having never beaten them before.

The boys' squad had a solid performance against some tough competition from the Aberdeen Schools' and Glasgow Schools' squads. James Stevenson (S5) had a great regatta, coming fourth in the Open J18 single against strong competition and coming second in the Open J18 double with Oliver Fenton (S5). Alasdair Watson and Struan Stewart (both S5) came third, five seconds behind.

Euan Dickerson and Fergus Mainland (S3), and Alex Chisholm and Ben Carruthers (both S4) won both the Open J16 quad and the Open J15 coxed quad (cox – Rebecca Moore (S5)) with consistent and strong performances.
