During their Drama Trip to Greece earlier this month pupils from S4 - S6 had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to perform at the ancient theatre of Epidaurus.
Pupils participated in Greek Drama workshops with specialist practitioner Tanushka Marah, who has been affiliated with the Drama Department for many years now. Classes included Antigone text analysis, tableau work, concentration exercises and mini presentations. These workshops were all held in the village of Tolo before the short trip to the ancient site.
The group were thrilled to be able to present some of their work on the actual stage of the ancient theatre of Epidaurus, which dates back to the mid fourth century BC and has hosted the works of such playwrights as Sophocles, Aristophanes and Euripides. Last year the festival at Epidaurus saw Kevin Spacey play Richard the Third!
Later that evening, the group were treated to a live performance of Oedipus Rex, along with over ten thousand other audience members. Although the piece was spoken in modern Greek, the group experienced an energetic performance that was both fascinating and mesmerising to watch.
