At the weekend Dr John Barrow, GWC Physics Teacher, was awarded the Hamish Henderson Services to Traditional Music Award? at the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards 2009.

This award was introduced in 2003 to celebrate those special people whom Scottish traditional music couldn't do without. In 2005 when the Hall of Fame was born the recipients were inducted into the Hall of Fame.

His citation in the Hall of Fame reads “John Barrow has made an enormous contribution to the Scottish folk music scene, despite hailing from over the border, spending much of his adult life as a physics teacher and being a relatively late starter in his appreciation of the music.”
