Double Grand Slam for Pipe Band

Cowal GamesThe Pipes & Drums continued their incredible winning streak at the Cowal Games last Saturday when the Juvenile band secured their tenth Championship win in succession to complete two back to back Grand Slams. This means that for the second season, GWC Juvenile band are Scottish, British, European, World and Cowal Games Champions.

Calum Watson (S6) and Harris Maclennan (S2) got the weekend off to a good start on the Friday both achieving prizes in the solo piping events. In the 15 & under competition, Harris was placed third in the March Strathspey & Reel (MSR) and sixth in the Piobaireachd, whilst Calum gained fifth place in the MSR and third in the Piobaireachd at 18 & under events.

On Saturday the Juvenile band and drummers won the Cowal Championships, securing the Champion of Champions title.

After finishing second at the four previous Majors, the Novice Band managed to go one better and take top spot and with this winning the Champion of Champions title. The Novice drummers also took first place and the Champion of Champions title for the eleventh year in succession.

To crown a perfect weekend, Watson's piping teachers Iain Simpson, Ross Harvey, and Jonathon Simpson (Class of 2007) won the Grade 1 Event with Boghall & Bathgate Caledonia. Andrew Ray (Class of 2005) also played in the winning band.

Finally our new Drum Major Mr Cook's band won the Grade 2 event and the Champion of Champions title with his band Denny and Dunipace.
