Athletes Break Scottish Championship Records

athletics starting lineWatson’s team came home from the Scottish Schools’ Athletics Championships at Grangemouth Stadium with 18 medals (six gold, five silvers and seven bronze).

At boys’ U14 level, Josh Kerr (S2) won gold in the 800m, breaking the championship record and receiving the trophy for the best 800m performance. He also won gold in the 1500m. Laurence Bialy (S2) won silver in the 400m hurdles, and the 4x100m relay team of Cameron Macdonald, Duncan Bell (both S1), Gregor Tait and Sandy Wilson (both S2) won bronze.

Ben Robbins (S3) won gold in the U15 200m competition, in which he too broke the championship record, and the 400m. He also gained silver in the discus event.

Seamus Thomson (S4) achieved gold in the U17 400m hurdles and silver in the 400m event. He also competed in the 4x100m relay, with Josif Grace, James Innes and Chris Kelly (all S4), winning gold. Chris also won bronze in the 200m event and Hamish Campbell (S4) won bronze in the shot putt.

Our girls’ U14 4x100m relay team (Lucy Gray (S2), Samantha Kidd , Katie Robinson, and Natalie Robbins (all S1)) won silver. Natalie also won bronze medals in both the 100m and 200m events.

Kirsty McKean (S3) won a silver medal in the U17 300m hurdles. She also won bronze in  long jump, as well as winning bronze in the 4x100m relay with Lucy Robinson, Eilidh Thomson (both S3), and Louise Riddell (S4).
