Primary 7 pupils coding in their classroomAs part of Computer Science Education Week (7–13 December 2015) pupils in Primary 7 have been trying their hand at basic computer programming by undertaking 'an hour of code'.

With themes such as Minecraft, Star Wars and Frozen, an hour of code introduces pupils to the basics of computer programming in an exciting and interactive environment.   For many it was their first taste of programming and using logic functions but most had mastered the skills early on and were keen to find greater challenges.  By dragging and dropping 'blocks' of code, pupils built up complex programmes on their iPads in order to solve challenges set by the software.

Interspersed with inspirational videos from software engineers and programmers from the likes of Microsoft and Google, 'An Hour of Code' helps to demystify code and shows that anybody can learn the basics.
