Gillian Sandilands

Gillian joined George Watson's Ladies College in Primary 3 at St Alban's Road and as she progressed up the school she moved to George Square. When the Ladies College merged with the 'Boy's School' she moved to Colinton Road where she completed her school years in 1978.

Gillian studied Biological Sciences at Edinburgh University and later an MBA with the Open University.

Life in the world of of work saw Gillian having a varied and interesting career building on her science background. Throughout her career Gillian was involved in bringing new novel Medical Device, In Vitro Diagnostic and Pharmaceutical products to market. Gillian has worked both at home and abroad, living both in the Netherlands and the United States. As Head of Global Compliance and Regulatory Affairs she and her team played an important role in medical product compliance and safety.

GIllian is married to Stewart and they have 2 children, Kirsty and Ewan who were educated at Erskine Stewart’s Melville prior to heading off to English Universities.

Gillian is a Member of the Royal Company of Merchants' of the City of Edinburgh, where she has served on the Master's Court and chaired the Charities Committee. She currently sits on the Audit and Risk Committee and the Education Board. Gillian is also a mentor for small start up companies and is currently the chairperson for the GWLC  committee who are organising the commemorative celebrations for the 150th anniversary in 2021.

Finding time to read, walk and stitch (not all at the same time) provide her with welcome relaxation.
