Whether you attended George Watson’s Boys’ College, George Watson’s Ladies’ College or George Watson’s College, outdoor adventures have been an important part of a Watson’s education. For some, those adventures came through S3 (Third Year) Projects which have been run by the school which have been part of the curriculum since 1962.
No matter the circumstances that led to each individual participating in an outdoor experience, all came with challenges to be overcome, new friendships to be made and new risks to be assessed and taken.
For many pupils, their S3 Project trip has remained the most memorable moment in their Watson’s journey, often recounted as a life-changing experience. And, it is for that very reason that throughout 2022 we will be hosting a year of events that celebrate the past 60 years of S3 Projects, but also looking to the future.
Events that celebrate camaraderie and challenge, life-long friendships, lessons learned and benefits gained, sites seen and hopefully revisited:
Backpacks, Blisters and Bunk Beds
Friday 10 - Sunday 12 June 2022
Projects at 60 Reunion Weekend at Aviemore Youth Hostel
Friday 9 - Sunday 11 September 2022
Projects at 60 Reunion Weekend at Cairngorm Lodge Youth Hostel
These two special residential events will give you the opportunity to relive some of the best (and worst!) bits of your S3 Project experience. Arriving on Friday evening - and once bunks have been bagged - guests will enjoy a hearty three-course dinner and have the chance to share memories (and photos) from their own Project experience. Saturday will commence with a full Scottish breakfast, before heading off on a choice of local activities, which could include: walking tours, a foraging experience, Munro bagging, a visit to a local distillery or reindeer herd. However you decide to fill your day - in true S3 Project tradition - you will be provided with a packed lunch to sustain you through your chosen activity. Following a fight for showers, Saturday will be rounded off with another three-course dinner and S3 Project Quiz (optional). The reunion weekend concludes on Sunday when, following a final Scottish breakfast, you can venture out again for local walks and activities before farewells after lunch.
The cost of each trip is £95 per person per trip, inclusive of all meals and two nights accommodation.
Activities can be selected nearer the time and will be at an additional cost, where applicable.
Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
