Financial Support
George Watson’s College aims to be an inclusive and welcoming environment in which children and young people from a wide range of backgrounds can learn, grow and thrive.
Every year we are able to offer a small number of families financial support to help parents and carers who wish their children to join our school. The funds available are limited and unfortunately not all families who apply will be successful in receiving support.
How does it work?
Financial assistance is available to any child applying to Primary 6 – Senior 6. Please note due to limited funds priority is given to children joining Primary 6, Primary 7 and Senior 1. We have two forms of financial support available to families:
Financial Assistance for Parents Scheme (FAPS)
Household income is above £36,000 (before tax)
and under £64,000 (before tax)
Foundation Places
Household income is below £36,000 (before tax)
Financial Assistance for Parents Scheme (FAPS)
The FAP scheme is funded from school fee income. The maximum award under the FAP Scheme is 70% of school fees. Additional support for activities and other costs of school life is not automatically available to pupils benefiting from the FAP Scheme. Discretionary support can be available for specific activities, trips and visits.
Foundation Places
Foundation Places are funded through donations made to the George Watson’s Family Foundation. The Foundation Places programme can fund 75%–100% of school fees. These places are not scholarships and are awarded primarily on the basis of financial need rather than academic criteria. Our Foundation Places are typically available to children who currently face particular social or educational adversity and who would benefit from attending Watson’s where we can support and guide them through our inspiring curriculum and extensive and inclusive Enrichment programme. To ensure families get the best possible experience at George Watson’s College we provide dedicated support to families in receipt of a Foundation Place through our Wider Access Manager.
There are additional costs associated with attending school, and in most instances we are able to offer further financial support beyond fee assistance for those in receipt of a Foundation Place.
*Unfortunately due to limited funds, we cannot guarantee financial support for catering and transport costs other than for pupils receiving 100% fee assistance.
