This year 14 pupils attended the National Small-Bore Rifle Association Championship at Lauder, our largest number of entrants so far. The depth of ability demonstrated within the club resulted in a wide range of trophies being won.
In the C Class Aggregate for the week, Isabel Stark (S6) won third place (just missing promotion to the next Class), and won Gold in Comp 2. Neasa O’Connell (S5) was just behind in fourth place, winning Comp 5 as part of the Aggregate. James Topley (S6) was just behind Neasa and finishing first in Comp 4. In the unsquadded Aggregate, Neasa was best placed winning Comp11.
Pupils in Class D won a good collection of trophies. Magnus Carswell (S6) won the Aggregate for the week, one point ahead of Sam Coates (also S6). Magnus won two competitions on his way to the Aggregate with Sam having one first place and two second places. Magnus continued his form by winning the Unsquadded Aggregate for the week. Both boys have gained promotion to the next Class for the British Championships at Bisley.
In the Team Competitions the ‘A’ Team consisted of Isabel, Neasa and Magnus, who successfully defended the Scottish Junior Team Championship. In the Open Competitions for classes B, C and D, the Team came second in the 50 Metre competition and third in the 100 Yard competition.
Sam was squeezed out of being Scottish Junior Champion by 2 points and was just ahead of Isabel in third place.
