The 23 pupils and 5 staff of the GWC Pipes & Drums travelled on 24 April to Fukuoka Japan on our 16th annual trip. We were there for 13 days and performed in many different events.
Some of our favourite experiences were performing at the opening and closing ceremonies at the Sanix 2018 World Youth Rugby Tournament at the Global Arena, the Hakata Dontaku Parade and the Arita Porcelain Park Parade .
We also visited local schools where the Pipes & Drums were privileged to play for their pupils. We learnt their Japanese culture and we shared our own with them.
During the trip we did more than these activities; we went shopping at the local markets, we dined on Japanese cuisine, went on an excursion to the safari park and none of us will forget the hot Japanese baths.
The GWC Pipes & Drums had a fantastic time in Japan. We will treasure the memories of this incredible experience and we hope we can go again.
