GWC named in best value independent schools

Pupils in class

We are delighted to share that Watson’s has been named as one of the best value independent schools by The Telegraph.

Our school was one of only two in Scotland, and the only one in Edinburgh, to make the list.

Principal, Melvyn Roffe, said: “One of the things that makes Watson’s special is that we always strive to provide an excellent and broad education at a cost which compares favourably with the independent sector average. It’s good that the Daily Telegraph agrees that we succeed in doing exactly that”.

The article highlights our impressive academic record, mentioning a broad range of Highers, Advanced Highers and A-Levels, and that over 90 per cent of our pupils continue on to higher education.

Our state of the art Design, Technology and Engineering department was also mentioned as were our Biology, Chemistry and Physics labs. Along with other traditional strengths such as Rugby, the more recent inclusion of Mandarin in our curriculum was also noted favourably as well as over 80 clubs and societies.

Schools were selected on their ability to compete, both academically and in the arena of extra-curricular activities, with their more expensive counterparts.
