GWC launches online events platform

GWC Plus

We are delighted to announce the launch of our new and exciting digital events platform, George Watson’s College Plus.

GWC Plus will allow our school to continue to hold important events, occasions and celebrations in the Watson’s calendar, in the face of current restrictions on large gatherings.

Events will be held on video conferencing app Zoom and will be a blend of webinars, meetings and symposium style events.

Through this platform, we will also be able to stay connected with our pupils, parents, staff, former pupils, our community and charity partners.

We’re excited to bring new events to the Watson’s community, to the wider community and to the world, through a platform where we can connect, communicate, and learn from each other.

Amy Hutchison, Digital and External Events Manager at Watson’s said: “The world of digital events has grown exponentially over the last eight months in response to COVID-19 and its restrictions.

“George Watson’s College Plus is a recognition of how vital digital events and communication have become and it has been fantastic to develop George Watson’s College Plus from a concept to successfully delivering our first live events.

“A really positive aspect of the platform is that it is accessible to everyone; pupils, staff, parents, former pupils, the school community and of course because it is virtual, we have the potential to engage on a global basis.”

Melvyn Roffe, Principal, said: “GWC Plus builds on what we have learned over the last seven months about how best to share information and ideas online. It provides us with a digital channel to host lectures, seminars, tutorials and other events and greatly expand the scope of the education we can provide.

“Our main focus will always be our pupils, but I am confident that GWC Plus will become a significant new way to provide benefit to individuals and groups well beyond our school community as well as closer to home.”

GWC Plus will have six channels which will focus on specific areas of life at Watson’s and beyond.

Highlights of the Watson’s calendar such as Remembrance Day will be available through the events channel

These events will be a place for discussion and the opportunity to learn from one another and to share ideas with others within and outside our school community. These events include Twilight Talks.

Community and partnerships are at the heart of our school. We believe partnership is good for everyone, that everyone has the capacity to make a difference and we all have a responsibility to do so.

Our Global stream is a place to bring people and communities together to promote our charities, partnerships and Project 810.

Our Arts stream is the place to enjoy productions, concerts and performances from our talented pupils both past and present such as the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols and Drama productions.

This stream will launch in early 2021 and will be a curated series of lectures by staff and university academics with links to Watson's.

On Demand
The benefit of digital events is that people can take part at a time that suits them. An On Demand service will be created, hosting a library of past GWC Plus events and recordings.
