Eco Group Discussions: The Thrift Shop

The Thrift Shop is an accessible way for pupils and parents to buy and sell school clothing and equipment. As a service, it helps the school reach its sustainability goals and provides more affordable options for all.

The shop also helps our local community. For example, when the school stopped using the 3-quarter waterproofs, the Thrift Shop removed the logos from the items and donated them to a girls’ football team to use as a strip. Similarly, the shop was also able to donate several bags of clothing to help people who were affected by the devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.

The more people utilise the services offered by the Thrift Shop, the more the facility will be able to help others.

Shop Information

Opening hours:

The Thrift Shop is open every Monday from 8:30am-4pm during term time and on the first Saturday of the month from 9:30am-11:30am.

During holiday periods, the opening hours are subject to change.

Location:

The shop is located next to the Admissions and Marketing Office at the east of the school campus.

Donations - buying and selling:

Goods may be donated to the shop or sold through it on commission. The seller receives 80% and the school 20%.

Unsuitable items received are donated to charities or recycled.

Goods are priced at rates that are usually half price or less of a new item.

Acceptable items include:

  • All garments on the current school uniform list (except where there is excess stock)

  • Sports equipment used in all school, team and clubs sports

  • Equipment for outdoor projects (including walking boots, protective clothing, rucksacks, waterproofs)

  • Breathable jackets (suitable for hill walking, and Duke of Edinburgh expedition equipment)

A full list of items that cannot be sold is displayed in the shop. Please be aware that the Thrift Shop does not accept safety helmets (cricket, riding, skiing, fencing), shoes (except pipe band shoes, sports shoes and dancing shoes), non-uniform/casual clothes, or bulky anoraks.

With this in mind, the next time you need a new item of clothing or have out-grown uniform that still has plenty of wear left in it, please consider using the Thrift Shop.
