We believe in adventures.
And so, we have some exciting news we want to share with you today. Our new George Watson’s Preschool will launch in August 2020.
This will be where we welcome children to our early years provision and will replace Primary 1 as the main entry point for the Junior School.
Preschool will be based in stunning new facilities that are being created in our Lower Primary building. Work on this development is now underway, and is due for completion towards the end of 2019.
As well as new Preschool classrooms, designed to create flexible, collaborative space to learn, our new outdoor space will be a centrepiece of the development. We believe our children should be able to go on adventures, every day.
For that reason, our new outdoor space will be magical. We are building a place where children can explore with freedom in a safe, inspiring environment.
Of course, we will continue to make use of the wider school, too, with regular explorations to different parts of our campus.
Every child attending Preschool will now enjoy a hot, healthy and delicious lunch together. Menus will be balanced and nutritious to help fuel these special adventures.
Each of our four Preschool classes will be teacher-led and supported by a team of experienced Preschool practitioners. There will never be more than 30 children in each class with a minimum of four members of staff at any given time.
Children will also wear a new George Watson’s Preschool polo shirt, with a design to be revealed ahead of next year.
We are committed to creating a clear pathway where children will have the best possible opportunity to move forward successfully into the Junior School. In Primary 1 there will be five classes each with around 23 pupils.
Our Principal Melvyn Roffe explains: “We are happy to be able to make this significant announcement about the future of our school.
“The launch of our Preschool allows us to bring to life our vision where children have the freedom to explore, through some amazing adventures, in a happy, safe and secure place. It builds on the heritage of over 20 years of successful nursery provision which has enabled generations of four year olds to make a successful start to their Watson’s journey of discovery.
Applications for Preschool places for August 2020 are now open. The deadline for applications is 30 August 2019.
There will be no entrance assessments for Preschool and as places are allocated on a first come, first served basis early applications are advised.
