Back Into the Swing of Debating

Back Into the Swing of Debating

Published on 3 October 2017

This session's debating competitions have opened with a bang, and on Saturday 30 September 2017, George Watson’s College sent eight of its debaters to the Northern Juniors competition held at Newcastle’s Royal Grammar School.

In the Under 16 Competition Adam Mallis (S5), Jamie Boothman (S5), Nathan Ezra-Jackson (S4), Samuel Wang (S3), Jessica Baker (S3), Simon Ezra-Jackson (S2), Christie Logan (S2) and Holly Grieve (S2) represented GWC. Throughout the three debates, our teams had to debate diverse and challenging topics regarding environmental policies, zero-hour contracts and post-conflict democracies.

All of the teams competing demonstrated great skill and valiant effort. Our Watson’s debaters consider this early competition a valuable experience and look forward to taking on all future competitions with the same enthusiasm and skill shown in Newcastle.
