A Successful November For Our Rowers

A Successful November For Our Rowers

Earlier this month the rowing team competed at Inverness Fours and Small Boats Head, which is always a cold, but successful, weekend for the school. The J14 boys double, made up of Freddy Foxwell and Ewan Robertson (both S2), won their race in division 1. They were then joined by Oli Sword and Sam McCrone (both S2), and Rosie Sinnott as cox, and went on to win the J14 coxed quad.

The S4s raced very well, winning both the girls and boys J15 and J16 double sculls. Angus Millar and Seb Ansell, and Izzy Clements and Robyn Douglas, both won their J15 doubles races. Alex Levi and Sam Beaumont won the J16 doubles race for the boys, while Izzy Clements was joined by Honey Hughes to win the equivalent girls’ race. Many other crews achieved second or third place in tough races. Inverness always proves to be a valuable race in terms of learning experience and racing achievement, and this year was no different.

A week later, on Friday 16, a cohort of rowers were in Motherwell for the Scottish Schools Indoor Rowing Championships which saw us win the Scottish Schools Indoor League for the second year in a row. Firstly, our athletes competed in their individual races and placed highly all round. Florence Ansell (S1) won bronze in her race, and Freddy Foxwell won silver in the S2 boys’ category. Further victories for the S4s came as Robyn Douglas and Izzy Clements won gold and silver respectively, while Alex Levi won bronze in the boys’ race. Finally, Rory Mainland (S5) won bronze in the S5 boys’ category.

The club’s incredible achievements continued to the afternoon with the team relays. Our run of 4 golds began with the S2 girls team, made up of Emily Fung, Holly Forster, Rowan McEwan and Millie Crow. The S2 boys also won their relay; the team was made up of Ross Patey, Patrick Lenihan, Ewan Robertson and Freddy Foxwell. The next win came from the S3 girls team, consisting of Isla Wilding, Chloe Bruce, Lucy McGill and Rosie Cameron. We had another clean sweep of golds in the S4s relays. The winning boys team was made up of Angus Millar, Seb Ansell, Alex Levi and Andrew Knowles, while the girls team was made up of Robyn Douglas, Izzy Clements, Isla Sinnott and Chloe Bruce.

Meanwhile, Peter Demyanov (S5) was in Boston, Lincolnshire for the GB Early ID Trials. He gave a superb performance and placed well in one of the toughest competitions of the season. Next, at the beginning of December, our rowers will travel to Newcastle to compete at Rutherford Head before the long winter season of rowing machine training gets into full swing.
