After a dramatic win against Stewart's Melville on running penalties, the 1st XI boys hockey side progressed to the Final of the Scottish School Boys' Cup on Friday 23 March. With a bus load of travelling support from Watson's, there was a brilliant atmosphere for the match against Loretto School at Glasgow Green. In front of a packed crowd, the side played some fantastic hockey in the first half, and took the lead through a well taken penalty stroke from Rory Evans (S5).
In the second half, Loretto came back into the contest well and eventually equalised through an excellent penalty corner. There were chances at both ends in the final 10 minutes but no school could break the deadlock, and the match was heading to running penalties. Craig Yelland (S4) made a number of excellent saves, and well taken goals by Euan Burgess (S5) and Rory Evans (S5) meant Watson's won the shootout by two goals to nil.
This was a brilliant achievement and a night that this group of players will remember for a long time.
Below are some highlights form the match.
