On Friday 13 December we held an event where Watson’s Engineering students and Arkwright scholars from other schools worked together on an engineering challenge to build the most effective ping pong ball launcher.

Ex Corde Caritas at Christmas
For the 13 million people living in poverty in the UK, Christmas can be one of the most challenging periods of the year. In fact, across the country, food banks are bracing themselves for a surge in families in need of emergency supplies – predicting their busiest month ever.
Watson’s has supported the North Leith Foodbank Centre for many years. This year, staff collections from bake sales and Christmas card sales raised £300 for donation, while as part of their end of year Modern Studies project work, our S4 pupils took part in the ‘£5 challenge’, investing £5 of their own money to raise as much as they could for the foodbank by washing cars, making and selling cakes and cards etc.

S1 debating winners argue a tough case for a meat-free Scotland
On Thursday 12 December, the final of the S1 Debating Competition took place. In front of their peers, two teams of debaters argued for and against the proposition that ‘This House would make Scotland meat-free by 2025.’

Our 1XV rugby captain Ewan Henderson has taken pride in defeat after his side gave it everything but came up just short in the Scottish Schools Cup final against Stewart’s Melville College at BT Murrayfield last night.
