On Friday 9 February, we were delighted to welcome the Guest of Honour, Ms Frances Guy (Class of 1977), current Gender Team Leader, Regional Bureau for Arab States, United Nations Development Programme, Amman, Jordan for Founder’s Day.

PE Teacher Awarded Female Umpire of the Year
PE Teacher, Sarah Wilson (Class of 2006) found out yesterday that she had been voted FiH (International Hockey Federation) Female Umpire of the Year. She is in the FIH top umpiring group – meaning she is one of the top 16 umpires in the world, and has umpired at the Olympics, including the bronze medal match between Germany and New Zealand.

Successful Outing to Durham for Rowers
On Saturday 3 February, the George Watson’s Boat Club was in the north-east of England for Durham Amateur Boat Club Small Boats Head. It was a successful day for all and was the first competition for many beginners.

Medal Wins at National Schools' Swimming Championship
On Saturday 27 January our swimmers took part in the National Schools' Championship in East Kilbride. We had a successful day with many excellent swims, coming away with seven medals from the meet.

U18 Scottish Indoor Hockey Champions
Our 1st XI hockey team won the Girls' U18 Scottish Indoor Hockey Championship in Perth at the weekend.
The girls played Strathallan and High School of Glasgow in their pool, finishing 4–4 and 8–2 respectively. Following a penalty shoot-out with joint pool winners Strathallan, the girls went on to play Robert Gordon's College in the semi-final, winning 6–2.
A close, competitive final game against Strathallan finished 3–3 resulting in another penalty shoot-out, with our girls going on to win the U18 Indoor Cup.

Celebrating the Bard
Last night at 7pm, many tartan adorned S6s took their seats in the Dining Hall, ready for a night of Scottish entertainment and food at the S6 Burns Supper.
