Chris Hoy

It was an exciting day for Watson's when former pupil, Olympic gold medallist Chris Hoy returned to his old school. Chris, who cycled to Olympic gold in 2004, arrived at school bearing two of his more recent medals, which he won at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne earlier this year. It was very exciting for all pupils and staff who had the opportunity to see these up close, but the greatest thrill was meeting Chris and having the opportunity to ask him all about his cycling career. It was a busy morning, with visits to both Lower and Upper Primary, before a reunion with former teachers over lunch. Among the staff who gathered to meet Chris was Muriel Fraser, now retired from the Junior School. Seeing Chris reunited with the lady he remembers as his favourite ever teacher was a truly memorable moment! All too soon it was time for Chris to move on, but among his mementoes of the day were a set of portraits of him by Mrs MacIver's P1 class and an old P4 jotter, in which Chris had written all about riding his BMX!
