Junior School Book Fair

On Friday 12 May the Nursery and Junior School held their biannual Book Fair. A great many books were bought throughout the day and the children were very excited to have the opportunity to meet three authors.

We were delighted to welcome Margaret Ryan, who spoke to our Primary 4 pupils and Tony Bonning, who gave a musical presentation to our Primary 1 Year Group. Margaret, who has been a visitor to Watson's many times before, talked about her books for older children. She captivated her audience by the interactive way she brought her characters alive by dressing the children up using various costumes and props such as an apron and chef's hat, a pair of 'lawyers' glasses, a tammy and a plaid! Children who bought her books at the Fair were thrilled to have them personalised by her.

Our Primary 1 children loved Tony Bonning's lively and exciting presentation. The colourful backdrop, his guitar and the funny songs created the opportunity for the children to sing along with him and to enjoy his stories.

Prior to the Book Fair, we were delighted to welcome a new author to the school, Katie Grant. Katie is a journalist and writer. Her recent book, How the Hangman Lost His Heart has recently won The Times' Children's Book of the Month. Katie gave a wonderful talk to our Primary 6 Year Group. Her enthusiasm for her writing was infectious and we were spellbound as she explained where the ideas for her plots come from and how she weaves them into a story. The incredible wigs that she brought along to bring her characters alive added to the fun and we were delighted that she too was able to sign copies of her books for the children.
