The move to Primary 4 marks a significant point in our children's journey at George Watson's. The transition starts in the latter part of Primary 3, making the move to the Upper Primary building as smooth and positive an experience as possible. Going some way to support the children during this process, is the decision that the children remain in their Primary 3 classes, ensuring that they feel safe and secure amongst their peers.
During Primary 4, our pupils encounter new, exciting challenges which build upon previous experiences in the Lower Primary. All of these aim to develop their independent and collaborative learning skills. The children follow a structured timetable, including specialist teaching in Art, Music, French and Physical Education. Maths grouping begins early in the school year. Children enjoy a range of stimulating experiences within topics, such as Planet Earth and The Vikings. As part of their study of the Vikings, the Year Group goes to York to visit many of the world famous sites there. This is the first occasion where the pupils embark on a residential trip, staying overnight in a hotel.
