Applications can be made at any time, although offers of places are made annually. Completed Nursery Application Forms should be submitted no later than 30 April 2012.
There is a non-refundable registration fee of £35. Applicants for August 2013 will have dates of birth between 1 March 2009 and 28 February 2010 unless entry to School has been deferred.
Offers of places for Session 2013/14 will be posted in May 2012. On acceptance of a place in the Nursery Unit there will be a non-refundable acceptance fee of £250.
It is anticipated that all children will attend for five morning or five day sessions each week. It is expected that all children will be daytime toilet trained when they begin Nursery.
Please note that it may not be possible to accommodate a child wishing to have a second pre-school year as places are allocated 15 months in advance of entry.
Parents of young children considering deferral should discuss this with Admissions prior to application.
We recommend that children attend pre-school Nursery for one year prior to entering Primary 1.
Fees are reviewed annually in May for the following session. Fees for Session 2011/12 are as follows:
| Morning Nursery | £3,723 |
| Day Nursery | £6,510 |
The Pre-School Partnership with The City of Edinburgh Council, results in parents receiving a contribution towards Nursery fees. Forms are distributed at the appropriate time.
There is a staggered entry for children during the first few days of session to allow children to start in small groups. All parents are invited to visit the Nursery the term before the children start school so that staff can explain settling in procedures. This is followed by a visit for the children. A Parents’ Evening is held in September, which focuses primarily on the curriculum.
Parents are asked to complete a medical form when their child begins Nursery.
The School requests that all children are brought to Nursery and collected from Nursery by an adult.
The following arrival and collection times apply to children who are enrolled only in Nursery.
| Arrival Time | 8.45am – 9.00am | |
| Collection Times | Morning Nursery | 11.30am – 11.45am |
| Day Nursery | 2.45pm – 3.00pm |
For children who are also enrolled in Nursery Plus, the extended hours of care are detailed in the Nursery Plus section.
Mid-morning and mid-afternoon snacks are provided for the children. Parents are asked to provide a packed lunch for Day Nursery children.
Children in the Nursery move forward to Primary 1. However, we reserve the right to recommend that a child repeats a year of nursery education or seeks a place elsewhere, if we feel that the child would not be able to make suitable progress, even with the support available.
Parents who would like to find out more about any aspect of our Nursery and Nursery Plus are invited to our Open Morning. Parents are also very welcome at other times, should you prefer to arrange an individual visit. Please do not hesitate to contact the Admissions Secretary or our Head of Nursery, both of whom can be contacted on 0131 446 6040.
