Remembrance Day Launch of Online War Records

by Mrs Fiona MacFarlane, 12 November 2009
During the conflicts of the Twentieth Century thousands of former pupils of George Watson's College fought and over 800 paid the ultimate sacrifice. On Wednesday 11 November, Remembrance Day, the School's annual Remembrance Day Service was preceded by the official launch of the School's online War Records.

The ceremony was carried out by Keith Anderson, current President, of the Watsonian Club and was witnessed by many former pupils, including Second World War Veterans, who had returned to join with pupils and staff to remember those who died in our Remembrance Day Service.

The Roll of Honour on our School website, provides the facts and the faces behind the stark statistics. It also includes the six members of staff who died in World War I, one former pupil of George Watson's Ladies' College who was killed in World War I and a pupil who died in the Korean War.

Over the last academic year these records, containing biographies together with military records and photographs, have been developed into a searchable website, and it is now possible to search by surname, regiment or cemetery with links to relevant Commonwealth War Graves Commission pages.
