Drummers Remain on Top of the World

by Mrs Fiona MacFarlane, 22 August 2008
This year has seen strong performances from the Drum corps in all major championships.

After what was an amazing season 2006/2007, it is fair to say that our pipers and drummers were disappointed to return from the World Championships in Glasgow this summer with ‘only one world championship’ under their belt. However the win by the Novice Juvenile Drummers was notable as it extended their unbeaten record, and the world championship remains at George Watson’s College for the sixth year in succession.

This followed their win at the British Championships in Birmingham at the start of the summer holidays and their win at the European Championships (along with the Juvenile Drum Corps) in Northern Ireland in July.

Gareth Edwards, Principal, said, “The Pipes and Drums are a great credit to the school, and we must remember that in May we were the holders of all the major championship titles. Our current musicians are young, but given their eagerness and talent our future success seems assured.”
