Information Technology
Our aim is to develop pupils' proficiency in the use of computers to
the extent that using them becomes second nature.
Part of our commitment is to ensure that pupils have access to the
latest hardware and software. The Department is exceptionally well resourced
in both hardware and software. There are four IT rooms, all fully networked
and equipped with Smartboard technology. There is also an open access
area, which can be used by pupils during breaks and study periods, to
do assignments, access their e-mail accounts or derive educational benefit
from the Internet, in an environment where the appropriate security mechanisms
are in place.
All pupils in S1 are introduced
to a wide range of problem-solving tools and a general discussion of hardware
and software. Pupils who choose to study the subject in S3 and S4 follow
a course leading to Intermediate 2 Computing in S4. Core IT is also provided
in S3 and S4 to maintain basic skills. During S5
and S6, pupils can progress at
a pace that suits their level of ability, with the provision of Intermediate
2, Higher and Advanced Higher Computing. Intermediate 2 Information Systems
is also on offer.
The Department is committed to providing the opportunity for pupils
to develop their computing skills beyond the standard required by SQA
courses. There are therefore a number of extra-curricular clubs, which
include Creative Computing for S1, Programming in Logo for S1 and S2,
and Programming in Java for pupils in S2 to S6.
