Library Department
Our libraries provide a positive change of learning environment for pupils. Pupils may use the libraries from before the start of the school day until 5 p.m.
The Fiction Library aims to further literacy in all our pupils with its frequently updated stock of novels and short story anthologies to attract all levels of readership. Separate collections of audio tapes, DVDs and Videos are particularly suitable for pupils receiving Support for Learning. English classes from S1 to S4 are timetabled into the Library where they can choose books, read or take part in book reviews or talks. Modern Language classes make use of books and magazines in French, and Spanish.
The Blair Morrison non-fiction library covers curricular subjects, current affairs and leisure activities. Five daily newspapers and a wide selection of magazines are available, along with other types of resources, such as leaflets, maps, posters, press cuttings, autobiographies and material relating to Study Skills and the Edinburgh area.
Pupils are encouraged to use the Blair Morrison Library for individual study and research. S6 pupils have a personal study area within the library, administered by a Study Supervisor, with access to laptop computers.
A regular newsletter features pupil book reviews and competitions and this, together with our information, know-how and catalogue pages, can be found at the Library website.
