Latin National Unit 1 Learning Outcome 2
Here is the translation of the Icarus story:
|
Once upon a time on the island of Crete, Daedalus built the labyrinth. In the labyrinth lived the Minotaur, a terrible monster. Daedalus had a son, called Icarus. For many years, daedalus and Icarus were prisoners. Daedalus wanted to escape from the island and dreamed up a daring plan. He decided to make wings and fly out of the island. He collected wood and feathers and painted wax on the feathers. After many months, Daedalus finished the wings. Then father and son flew towards the sky. But Icarus, who was always a reckless boy, did not want to listen to his father. Icarus loved his new-found freedom; he flew faster than an eagle, but his father warned him: "Don't fly towards the sun: the heat will melt the wax." But Icarus did not listen; the sun destroyed the wings and Icarus fell into the sea near and island which today is called Icaria. |
