REVISION FOR ASSESSMENT 2(May)

The exam will have three sections: Grammar and Syntax, Vocabulary and Mythology.

1. Grammar: the following parts of speech:
     noun ; adjective ; adverb ; verb ; pronoun ; preposition ; conjunction.
    Syntax :
    Analysis of a sentence into subject/verb/object.

 

2. Vocabulary:
      The following prefixes and their meaning:

prefix
meaning
sym-/syn-/com-/con- with ; together
micro- small
mega- big
poly- many
ambi- both

and the following suffixes and their meaning:

suffix
meaning
-ology the study of
-ist someone who does something
-phobia fear of
-graphy writing about

AND the prefixes for negative adjectives on pages 50-52 of the text book.

3. Mythology:

  1.  Know the details of the stories from Unit 6 (Demeter) up to and including Unit 14 (Poseidon).
       Test yourself by doing the various mythology quizzes on the Classics Department web page.

  2.  Know the Greek and Roman names of the Gods and Goddesses and their functions.
