What is a conjunction?

Conjunctions join together individual words or phrases or parts of a sentence.

The following sentences will show you the only conjunctions we are interested in at this stage; they are in bold print and underlined.:

  1. The Trojans were helped by Hera and Athene

  2. Orpheus went down to the Underworld and pleaded with Hades to release his wife.

  3. Athene tried to warn Arachne but the foolish girl did not listen to her.

  4. Prometheus disobeyed Zeus not once but twice.

  5. Hera showed no mercy to Hercules or his family.

  6. Apollo did not know if the cattle had wandered off or if they had been stolen.
