Application for Admission to Nursery 2011/12

Applications can be made at any time, although offers of places are made annually. Completed application forms should be submitted no later than 30 April 2010.

There is a non-refundable registration fee of £35. Applicants for August 2011 will have dates of birth between 1 March 2007 and 28 February 2008 unless entry to School has been deferred.

Offers of places for Session 2010/11 will be posted in May 2010. On acceptance of a place in the Nursery Unit there will be a non-refundable acceptance fee of £250.

Nursery

It is anticipated that all children will attend for five morning or five day sessions each week. It is expected that all children will be daytime toilet trained when they begin Nursery.

Please note that it may not be possible to accommodate a child wishing to have a second pre-school year as places are allocated 15 months in advance of entry.

Parents of young children considering deferral should discuss this with Admissions prior to application.

We recommend that children attend pre-school Nursery for one year prior to entering Primary 1.

Fees

Fees are reviewed annually in May for the following session. Fees for Session 2009/10 are as follows:

Morning Nursery £3,552
Day Nursery £6,210

Pre-School Partnership

The Pre-School Partnership with The City of Edinburgh Council, results in parents receiving a contribution towards Nursery fees. Forms are distributed at the appropriate time.

Arrangements for the Start of Session

There is a staggered entry for children during the first few days of session to allow children to start in small groups. All parents are invited to visit the Nursery the term before the children start school so that staff can explain settling in procedures. This is followed by a visit for the children. A Parents’ Evening is held in September, which focuses primarily on the curriculum.

Parents are asked to complete a medical form when their child begins Nursery.

Arrival and Collection

The School requests that all children are brought to Nursery and collected from Nursery by an adult.

The following arrival and collection times apply to children who are enrolled only in Nursery.

Arrival Time 8.45am–9.00am
Collection Times Morning Nursery 11.30am–11.45am
  Day Nursery 2.45pm–3.00pm

For children who are also enrolled in Nursery Plus, the extended hours of care are detailed below in the Nursery Plus section.

Food

Mid-morning and mid-afternoon snacks are provided for the children. Parents are asked to provide a packed lunch for Day Nursery children.

Applications for Primary 1

Children in the Nursery move forward to Primary 1. However, we reserve the right to recommend that a child repeats a year of nursery education or seeks a place elsewhere, if we feel that the child would not be able to make suitable progress, even with the support available.

Nursery Plus

Nursery Plus provides a flexible package of care, allowing parents to opt for the care sessions that suit their specific needs.

Early Morning Session

Children can attend the early morning session from 8.00am until the start of the nursery day at 8.45am.

A light breakfast is available. Children are collected by Nursery staff in time for the start of Nursery at 8.45am.
