ENCOURAGING GROWTH

Primary 1 introduces a more formal way of learning but one which is founded on the philosophy that learning should be fun. We know that happy and motivated children are more receptive to new ideas and knowledge.

Our curriculum is based on the national guidelines with an appropriate emphasis upon the key areas of reading, writing and mathematics. We enrich our programme with carefully selected resources, the thoughtful use of technology and innovative teaching in and out of the classroom.

Our Junior School benefits from the work of our specialist teachers who support our classroom staff in delivering key areas of the curriculum. These include Modern Languages teachers who begin working with our pupils in Primary 2 by concentrating on conversation, games and songs to develop confidence with the spoken language. Specialist teaching is also given in PE and Music, and later, in Upper Primary, in Art and Science.

In Primary 4, pupils enter the world of the Upper Primary School for a new set of learning experiences that builds on the skills acquired in Lower Primary. The curriculum takes a more structured approach to Environmental Studies and Expressive Arts, and a programme of Personal and Social Development and Health Education is tailored to the growing maturity of the pupils.

Primary 5 brings further change as our pupils are placed into new class groups. This process is sensitively managed and prepares them for the more extensive changes they will meet in Senior School. Our dedication to a wider, more inclusive curriculum presents exciting opportunities to place learning in new contexts.

We expand study through off-campus cultural and educational visits. These become more adventurous as pupils mature and in Upper Primary we arrange adventure camps and city visits.

Helping pupils to develop independence within secure but challenging environments is part of our wider process to prepare them for the challenges of life in the Senior School.
